Traffic Courts in San Mateo County

Traffic tickets in San Mateo County are handled in one of two courthouses:

Northern Branch 1050 Mission Road South San Francisco, CA 94080

Southern Branch 400 County Center Redwood City, CA 94063

Sometimes ticketed drivers miss court dates and are severely punished for failing to appear on a traffic citation.  This frequently happens if your latest address information has not have been updated with the Department of Motor Vehicles and important court notices are mailed to your old address. When changing addresses, be sure to notify DMV according to established DMV procedures.

Whether you attempt to clear your ticket online or by phone call to the courts, you will not find out all of your options. The clerk may inform you verbally or electronically that you are not eligible for traffic school. This may be true because you attended traffic school within the past 18 months or may not be true because an experienced traffic ticket lawyer may persuade the judge that you should be referred to traffic school because of different factors resolved in your favor, such as a court reduction of your speed. The court staff can accommodate you by accepting the payment of a fine or even the reduction of a fine but cannot prevent your driving record from receiving points. The fines are typically far less than significant increases for insurance premiums or missing out on employment opportunities because of points on your record.
